Last week, City Council officially began moving towards its target of $25 per capita in arts funding, to bring it more in line with support for the arts in other major cities. New arts funding will come from billboard tax revenue. North York Arts, a community arts organization I helped establish, will also get some of this new funding, so that arts and culture in North York will once again be supported by the city. If you are interested in learning more about North York Arts, visit their website.
Meanwhile, various arts organizations across the city have teamed together to produce a new set of recommendations under the BeautifulCity.ca umbrella. You can read more here.
Now it’s your turn. The City of Toronto and Toronto Arts Council will be hosting a public consultation session in North York on Thursday, April 18 from 6 – 9 PM at the Toronto Centre for the Arts at 5040 Yonge Street. Your participation will help the City and TAC draft a new four year plan to 2016 on how to invest this funding. For more information visit the consultation website.
