One of the great ways for local kids to cool off on hot summer days is to get out and play at one of our City’s neighbourhood splash pads. In recent years however, many of the local facilities in Willowdale have fallen further and further into disrepair. At Hendon Park, the issue reached a “crisis” stage this summer when the pad just west of Yonge Street stopped working all together.
Local residents were rightly frustrated with the season closure. As their representative, John was equally frustrated after spending several years working with City staff to find the necessary funding to get our splash pads back to top form.
John can however now share some good news. The City has committed to immediately restore facilities at Hendon Park, Willowdale Park – east of Yonge Street, and in Glendora Park south of Sheppard Avenue East. Work is expected to begin in the coming weeks so that these pads will be fully operational at the start of the 2016 season.
In addition to the splash pad operation, each location will include additional seating, shade and areas for parents to more comfortably spend time with their kids.
