Early closures will continue on Line 1 between Finch and Eglinton stations from February 16-18. Subway service will end at 11 p.m. nightly for more tunnel and signal upgrades. Regular service will resume at approximately 6 a.m. each following morning.

Shuttle buses will be running to replace service along the subway line during these closures. Buses will operate every 1.5 to 2 minutes, and supervisors will be stationed at key locations reminding and advising both customers and operators of the TTC’s mandatory mask policy.

This year, Willowdale is home to four community outdoor skating rinks. The rinks are built and maintained by local volunteers so that members of their community can enjoy the outdoors and skate safely in their own neighbourhoods. With COVID-19 making everything more difficult this year, I want to extend a very special thanks to the volunteers who have built and maintained the rinks. Students in Toronto will be returning to in-person learning on Tuesday, February 16.

While most students around the province will be back in class next week, those in Toronto, Peel, and York Regions will start a week later, at the request of their Medical Officers of Health.

As an added safety measure, masks will be required outdoors once schools re-open. For a refresher on all of the advice and precautions that the City and the school boards have taken, visit Toronto Public Health’s website here.

As a reminder, there will be no Subway service on Line 1 between Finch and St Clair stations on Saturday, February 6 and Sunday, February 7, to accommodate work on the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit construction project. While this work is being completed, the TTC is also using the closure to upgrade the signals on our section of the Subway line.

The City of Toronto is conducting additional education and enforcement in residential apartment buildings and condominiums where multiple complaints have been received about mask usage in enclosed common spaces.

The City had received 1,950 complaints about improper mask usage in shared residential spaces since the new by-law came into effect in August of last year. If all one looked at were this week’s trends, it would be easy to think we’d turned a corner and were on our way home. For the second straight week, new infections in Toronto fell, as did numbers in Ontario and across North America.

In the city, we averaged about 600 new cases per day – still terribly high but moving in the right direction. Hospitalizations and ICU occupancy were down slightly. And the reproductive number dropped to .8, which should cause numbers to keep falling.

Finally, most of us seem to be taking this pandemic more seriously. Traffic data shows that many more are heeding the plea to stay home and, for the first time since August, COVID numbers are moving in the right direction.
