Doors Open Toronto presented by Great Gulf announced its lineup of buildings, city-wide walking tours and special programs for Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. The weekend celebration of architecture features more than 150 building participants, including 55 new sites, a speaker series, walking tours and more. This fall 2019, the City of Toronto will be reconstructing Willowdale Avenue from Finch Avenue East to Empress Avenue and potentially installing a new buffered bike lane from Bishop Avenue to Empress Avenue.

The new bike lane would provide a dedicated space for cyclists, improving safety and comfort for all road users. The bike lane would expand the local cycling network by connecting to the existing Finch Hydro Corridor multi-use trail.

Toronto Marathon – May 5 (ROAD CLOSURES)

One of Toronto’s largest athletic events draws 14,000 participants from over 50 countries to experience our city on foot. This year’s Toronto Marathon marathon will be held on Sunday, May 5 beginning at 7:30 AM from Mel Lastman Square. A half marathon will begin at 8:30 AMwith additional runs and walks starting in between.

Toronto’s annual spring cleanup takes place on April 26-28, 2019.  The Clean Toronto Together program mobilizes more than 200,000 residents, students, businesses, organizations and community groups.

Last week, John joined Deputy Mayor Michael Thompson celebrity gardener Ben Cullen at Cummer Lodge to welcome 600 new plants donated by Canada Blooms.  This is the 12th season that Canada Blooms, an annual world-class festival connecting people to the joys and benefits of nature through gardens and flowers, has donated plants to beautify one of the City’s long-term care facilities.

Willowdale has responded to the horrific attack of April 23 with an outpouring of grief, sympathy, kindness and generosity. This is reflected in the memorial sites which residents have created at Olive Square Parkand Mel Lastman Square.

This weekend, 40 days after the attack, we mark another step on the road to recovery.
