Yonge Street North Community Consultation

March 12, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The City invites you to come to a community consultation open house for more information and to provide your feedback on both the transportation and planning studies. Your feedback is important to help the City develop policies for this changing area where an extension to the TTC Line 1 Yonge-University subway is planned.

Transportation Master Plan

The City of Toronto is starting a Transportation Master Plan as part of the Yonge Street North Planning Study area.  Within the study area this long term plan will identify and recommend transportation improvements including:

  • New road connections
  • Walking and cycling networks
  • Safety and road design
  • Access to public transit
  • Parking
  • Managing travel growth

The Transportation Master Plan will follow Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process. It builds upon and updates draft analysis previously initiated.  It will identify transportation problems and opportunities, review potential solutions, and provide a plan to implement recommended infrastructure, policies, and initiatives.  Opportunities for public and stakeholder consultation will be provided through the study.

The City of Toronto is undertaking the Yonge Street North Planning Study to develop a vision for the study area and to create a comprehensive set of planning tools to realize the vision for the area and respond to increasing development pressures.

In May of 2019, staff held a Community Consultation Meeting to re-launch the Yonge Street North Planning Study. Staff conducted round table discussions and members of the public were able to provide feedback on:

  • Massing
  • Parks
  • Streetscape
  • Community Services and Facilities
  • Secondary Plan Boundary
  • Traffic

Following the community consultation meeting, staff assessed feedback from members of the public and as a result, have amended the draft Secondary Plan boundaries. In expanding the draft Secondary Plan boundary further into the Neighbourhoods, staff have begun to assess the appropriateness of a range of building types in these areas.

The purpose of this open house is for staff to collect further feedback on the draft expanded Secondary Plan boundaries and building type options within the expanded area.

We would like to hear from you

Public participation is an important part of this study. We welcome your feedback via in-person participation at public events, or by phone, mail, and email.
