Markus O’Brien Fehr                                    Chief of Staff

An active political organizer in Willowdale for over a decade at all levels of government, Markus joined John’s team in 2011 as Executive Assistant/Chief of Staff. He has served on the boards of a local condo, at Yonge Hearts Child Care and on the Parent Council at Cameron Public School. He also sits on the board of Kids in Camp, a charitable foundation, continuing the work he did for 15 years in the field of children’s recreation. He received a Canada 150 Medallion in 2018 for outstanding contributions to community.

Catherine LeBlanc-Miller                           Senior Advisor – Planning & Children’s Services

Catherine became John’s office go-to on all large scale planning and development matters in 2011, along with working on expanding local child care facilities. Catherine served as a trustee with the Toronto Catholic District School board from 2002 until 2010 including a term as chair. She has also served as a conference president with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul working towards poverty alleviation.

Brian Liberty                                                Special Assistant – Building, Parks & Facilities

Brian joined John’s team in 2012 working on community organization, Committee of Adjustment appeals and public parks and facilities projects. He previously spent time as a community worker with St. Christopher House and the Evergreen Brick Works. He was the founding Co-Chair of the Long Branch Neighbourhood Association, the Vice-President of the Friends of Sam Smith Park and has also managed a local farmers’ market He holds diplomas from George Brown College in Building Technology and Community Development.

Sarah Barber                                               Constituency Assistant & Office Manager

Sarah has worked on the front lines of John’s office resolving constituent cases since 2012.  She currently manages our office and handles all matters related to Municipal Licensing & Property Standards. Sarah holds a diploma in Legal Office Administration from Seneca College and has past experience working with public interest, strategy and communications.

Selina Chignall                                            Constituency Assistant – Communications

Selina took over office communications in 2019 after writing stints with iPolitics, Hill Times Publishing and Brunico Communications. Selina holds her Master of Arts in Journalism from Western University and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from the University of Toronto. Selina also has experience as the Communications and Social Media Lead with Equal Voice and is a Policy Researcher with STAND Canada.

Ian Hwang                                            Constituency Assistant – Transportation & Infrastructure

Ian is a student at the University of Toronto in the Urban Studies Program. He comes to our office after serving as an Administrative Assistant with the office of Councillor Joe Mihevc at City Hall in 2018. He has also been involved with the Urban Studies Student Union, with the UofT Model United Nations (UTMUN) and as a lifeguard at Hart House Fitness Centre. He received the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award in 2016.

Jesse James                                               Constituency Assistant – Community Outreach

Jesse’s organizing skills are renown in Willowdale after many years of building connections between neighbours and community members. For almost nine years he worked with Youth Unlimited doing outreach among many of Willowdale’s most marginalized youth and families. In 2018, he responded to the Yonge Street tragedy by co-founding We Love Willowdale and organizing a range of community responses. Jesse holds a Masters of Divinity from Tyndale Seminary. He joined John’s team in 2019.

Katiana Moussa                                          Constituency Assistant – Community & Culture

Katiana joined us in 2019 as a graduate of the Politics and Governance program at Ryerson University. Katiana had previously interned with a Federal MP’s office where she worked on community events and Autism outreach. She has also volunteered as the president of UNICEF at Ryerson, with Syrian refugee assistance and was the president of her Student Association at Ryerson.
