The creation of new, interesting parks has been a major component of my efforts to continually improve our community. Within the past five years we have opened great new parks at Edithvale, Olive Square, Maplehurst and Avonshire. This fall, we expect to officially open the Rose Garden at Yonge & Park Home as a City park and are well into the design development of the new North York Arts Park at Princess Avenue and Gladys Allison Gate.
But the best news of all is that the City is about to obtain a large new piece of parkland west of Yonge near the Finch Hydro Corridor, behind what is currently the Toronto Hydro Building. The site, almost 2.5 acres, is large enough to create a community facility in addition to providing lots of open space. I look forward to working with residents to develop plans and designs once we have officially taken ownership of the property. I will also be looking to acquire additional parkland from the adjacent Toronto Hydro site.
