Remembering the Yonge Tragedy – April 23

Remembering the Yonge Tragedy – April 23

Almost one year ago, the Willowdale neighbourhood was struck by a horrible tragedy.  Within hours Willowdale residents mobilized to help turn our collective cries of sorrow into songs of healing.  We are engaging with that tragedy again, and we all hope that our community continues to mend collective wounds.

How do we process grief and tragedy?  This is a difficult question both for individuals and for an entire community, even a year later.  This question is made more complex by the plurality of Willowdale’s residents where there is no single language, faith, or approach that works for everyone.

In the splendour of our diversity, however, there are some commonalities such as music, art and food, which we will have an opportunity to share one year after this tragedy.  A team of dedicated volunteers has been working on a program for Tuesday, April 23.  We invite you to join us for any or all parts of the day.

9 AM – 6 PM     Music Heals at Mel Lastman Square – live music throughout the day
Reclaim Yonge with Colour – look for sidewalk chalk on the west side of Yonge
