Small Businesses Need Our Help

The Province’s decision to allow big box stores to sell non-essential products while small independent retailers cannot do so is causing additional hardship for local business. Let’s do everything we can to help them during this extremely difficult time.

As much as possible, shop local.

The City is making it easier to do that by re-opening the CurbTO program, which creates temporary parking zones so that shops and restaurants on main streets can offer curbside pickup and delivery services. Businesses along main streets should visit http://www.toronto.ca/curbto to learn more and register.

To help protect restaurants from extremely high delivery fees, the Province today imposed a cap of 15% on delivery fees on apps like Uber Eats, who were charging restaruants up to 30%. Others, like DoorDash were lower and some are now under the new maximum.

But the best way to support your favourite restaurant is to save them from all fees by doing pickup, provided you can do so safely

If you can, order something a little extra to refrigerate or freeze for another day. Every little bit helps, and will make sure we come out of this crisis stronger than when we went into it.
