Work Continues on Community Basketball Courts

By Markus O’Brien-Fehr – Chief of Staff

Construction is currently underway for two community basketball facilities that will help keep communities active and youth engaged.

In 2019 John secured funding to help pay for the reconstruction of a basketball court at a TCH community in Willowdale. The construction began this past summer and will include a larger and new playing surface, a new perimeter fence, new basketball nets, and a community-led mural at centre court. The whole project should be completed in the next couple months.

New courts were also unveiled at Edithvale Community Centre in 2019.  Unfortunately, the implementation of the project was extremely poor, resulting in a slope on the court that was ultimately unsafe.  John took action to ensure that the playing surfaces were refinished in proper working order, and to ensure that the City was ensuring accountability with the original work team.  This work is now underway in the park and should be competed over the next couple of weeks.

A reminder that John’s parks survey for future park improvements is still active and can be found here. Share your voice and tell us what amenities matter to you in our public parks.
